This past year I traveled from coast to coast and also into Canada for Bull Riding events, where I focused on winning a World Title in the IPRA and qualifying for IFR finals for the 3rd consecutive year. Last year my goal was to win the World Title in the IPRA and to maintain a top 100 position in the PBR. I achieved both goals. I am the IPRA World Champion and I made an impressive showing in the PBR. I have set my goals a step higher this year. My goal is to focus solely on the PBR and to qualify for the televised events and the World Finals in Las Vegas, Nevada.
My two daughters, 7yr old Natalie and 5yr old Audra, are my #1 fans. They love watching me compete. They have complained some this year that they didn’t get to watch me ride as often. Since turning professional I haven’t had as many events close to home as I did a couple of years ago. I always seem to ride better when I know they're watching.
In Bull Riding the saying goes, "it's not if you get hurt, it's when." I've been especially blessed in my career so far, I've received no major injuries other than a couple of broken bones. I honestly believe that God has put me in this sport to be a leader and a role model to the younger riders. My success has put a lot of the younger Bull Riders’ eyes on me and I do my best to always present myself in a way that is professional and Christian.
I am extremely grateful for the sponsorship help that I have! It's impossible to be successful in this sport without sponsors. Setting my goals higher this year comes with added expense on my part but it also adds exposure for my sponsors. Currently I am very close to qualifying for the Built Ford Tough events that are televised each weekend.
There’s a lot of added pressure on a Bull Rider when he knows he has to win to keep the bills paid, many times resulting in poor rides due to that pressure. Bull Riding is a mental game; you have to be very strong mentally to compete at a high level. Sponsors really help a contestant focus on the task at hand.
My sponsors are relatively small organizations who realize my potential in reaching hundreds, even thousands of people at each event every weekend. Through word of mouth, radio, vehicle and clothing logos, and my website, I am able to spread the word about my sponsors. I am always looking for a new person or company who is interested in Bull Riding and who is looking for inexpensive advertising and a 100% tax write off.
I love Bull Riding and I look forward to qualifying for the PBR Finals in Las Vegas, Nevada. That is my goal and I will reach it!
